Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon says Essendon are talented across the ground and will be a stiff challenge at Domain Stadium on Saturday night.

Lyon said Essendon had showed mixed form this year, with three wins and two losses, but were a genuine competitor.

“Their best is very, very good,” he said.

“With respect to Melbourne, the calibre goes up this week.”

Lyon said they were talented across the ground.

“They’ve got all the elements,” he said.

“They’ve got some wonderful tall forwards in (Jake) Carlisle and (Joe) Daniher.

Coaching is a privilege for Ross

Lyon said their defence led by Michael Hurley was solid.

“We are under no illusions what lays in front of us,” he said.

“They’re a significant challenge.

“Our fives win aren’t going to count once the ball is bounced…it’s about what’s done on the night.”

Lyon said it was another opportunity for Fremantle to improve and put together four quarters.

“We’re really excited about the football we are playing,” he said.

“We have another opportunity to improve.”

Fremantle play Essendon at Domain Stadium Saturday 9 May.
