Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich has vowed his side will work hard to recapture its early season form after a heavy loss to Hawthorn.

The 72-point defeat at Aurora Stadium on Sunday was the club’s worst of the year and first time it had conceded 100 points.

Pavlich said the team’s trademark was to work hard and he backed them to bounce back.

“I know this group will hook back into that hard work and dedication, that’s been a strength of this group,” he said.

“Although we certainly lament the way we played and we’re feeling sore and sorry for ourselves, we’re 12 and 2.”

Pavlich said Fremantle need to rediscover its early season form that included nine straight wins.

"We’ve played some good footy this year but clearly we have to improve on some elements of our game,” he said.

“The first 10 rounds or so was really strong.

“We obviously need to get back to that level.

“We feel as though we can but like everything it takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

“Credit to the Hawks, they certainly deserve to be premiership favourites and get the win, they were outstanding.”

No cause for concern: Barlow

Pavlich said there were a number of areas to focus on during the six-day break around facing Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday.

“The focus will be on improving our football holistically, given we only have six days before Carlton,” he said.

“Our structures were a long way off, so was our competitive element, which has been strength of ours for a long time.

“It’s no surprise when that happens, you get beaten convincingly.”

Fremantle play Carlton on Saturday 18 July at Domain Stadium. Bounce down is at 5.40pm local time.
