With senior coach Ross Lyon confirming Nat Fyfe will miss this weekend, the focus is now on who will replace him in the 22.

Lyon told Channel Seven on Tuesday night that Fyfe would miss Sunday’s clash with the Giants at Domain Stadium due to a groin injury.

A number of players are in the mix and Fyfe’s absence could even open the door for a debutant.

Fyfe the new No.1 player

Draftees Lachie Weller, Ed Langdon and Connor Blakely have been pushing for an AFL call up and Lyon said as recently as last week that five to six Peel players were under consideration.

The trio have been in solid touch for Peel Thunder in the WAFL and Sunday’s game seems an ideal opportunity to blood a young player against a relatively inexperienced Giants’ outfit.

Weller may be leading the charge after he flew as an emergency to Melbourne last week.

The run home

However, a number of more senior players are also in the mix to play, among them Zac Dawson, who was also named as an emergency last week.

Dawson has played just one game for Peel since returning from a broken thumb but Fremantle will be keen to get AFL game time into him before finals.

Paul Duffield, Tendai Mzungu and Jack Hannath may also be in the thinking, with all three having played AFL this year.
