While Freo have only played two games so far in 2016, Lachie Weller said they would get the most out of their bye, following a two-point win over Adelaide on Sunday.

“There are definitely a couple areas we need to improve on and Ross (Lyon) has already gone through them with us,” Weller said.

“We’ve got a week off now so we’ll work hard on them in training and hopefully fix them against Geelong.

Weller was pleased with his early performance against Adelaide, and also praised the efforts of some of his fellow second year Freo teammates.

“I thought I came out pretty strong in the first quarter,” he said.

Fine tuning required

“Connor (Blakely) was really strong in the midfield, and Ed (Langdon) played his first game back but worked himself into the game really well.”

The tightly contested game provided a good level of competition, and while scrappy at times, was a positive according to Weller.

“It was pretty close and they had a young team who came out hard and ready to play,” he said.

“It wasn’t too bad, but it was definitely good that we held on in the end.”
