As the Fremantle Dockers prepare to face the Gold Coast Suns in round two’s Starlight Purple Haze game, the midfield matchup promises to be must see viewing.

The Suns boast a midfield of Gary Ablett, Dion Prestia and a supporting cast of talented youngsters but Freo forward Chris Mayne was confident his teammates would to be up to the challenge.

“We’re going to have a really strong midfield to match theirs,” Mayne said.

“We have Nat Fyfe who’s the reigning Brownlow Medallist, we have Dave Mundy in the midfield, Lachie Neale and big Aaron (Sandilands) is back.”

HBF Injury Update

Mayne said that while the youth of the Suns has been well documented, the return of their older players that have made a big difference.

“They’re a young side that missed a lot of experience last year, but that experience has come back in,” he said.

Some of that experience returning for the Gold Coast was that of two-time Brownlow Medallist Gary Ablett, who hit the ground running in the Suns 61-point win over Essendon, finishing with 34 disposals and a goal.

With a healthy Ablett, a talented young squad, and momentum from an opening round victory, Mayne said Freo know exactly what to expect from the Suns on Saturday.

“We know it’s going to be a red hot go,” he said.

“We’re not expecting anything less than that, and we’re ready to take the challenge on.”
