Sports science manager Jason Weber expects defender Michael Johnson to be available for Freo’s Starlight Purple Haze game against Gold Coast this Saturday.

Johnson was named in the squad to take on the Western Bulldogs in round one but was a late withdrawal due to a calf injury.

“Michael had a small amount of awareness in the calf that weren’t happy with so he’s been held over,” Weber said.

“He’ll train fully this week and we expect him to be available for selection by the match committee.”

Anthony Morabito will test his injured hamstring by participating in full training this week and Weber was pleased with his rehab so far.

“Anthony will be in full training this week and we look forward to getting him available as soon as we can,” he said.

Freo forward Hayden Crozier didn’t play for the Peel Thunder in the WAFL due to a concussion but trained on Tuesday and should be available for selection.

Mature-age WAFL recruit Shane Yarran is yet to play in 2016, a result of a late season knee injury he sustained last year, according to Weber.

“Shane had quite a significant knee injury at the end of last year playing in the WAFL Grand Final,” he said.

“That’s taken a little bit more time than we would have liked to get right but he’s really getting his match fitness up now and doing some really good things in training.”
