A refreshed Lachie Weller says he is in good shape and raring to go as he commenced pre-season training this morning.

Weller returned to Fremantle Oval this morning for his first official training session, shaping up alongside a small group of fellow one to four year players who were not a part of Peel Thunder’s side in the 2016 WAFL finals series.

This group included Cam McCarthy, Matt Taberner and Matthew Uebergang, while Bradley Hill came in voluntarily to join in with the running sessions.

After holidaying in Hong Kong, Thailand and going surfing near Bali, Weller made sure he spent some time on Aussie soil to prepare for the coming months

“(My break) was good, I got the most out of it and I come back nice and refreshed,” Weller said.

“I got away overseas for a little bit and got back to Australia and got a bit of training in. I’m feeling really good (to be) back in Freo now.”

The 20-year-old entered last year’s pre-season with just three games under his belt. After featuring in all 22 games in 2016 and earning a NAB AFL Rising Star nomination, Weller says he has a better understanding of how to approach this pre-season.

“The expectations rise more in yourself, but you know where you sit and where you need to improve,” Weller said.

“I’ve just got to sit down and set some goals and focus on achieving them.

“I felt really good (today). We’re slowly working into it so it wasn’t too hard but, the body’s feeling really good.

“There’s a good young crew coming through so it’s exciting. We’re going to play a lot of footy together, so I’m looking forward to building some really good relationships.”
