With a handful players pushing for selection, David Mundy says Fremantle’s starting 22 is not set in stone for Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

A number of Peel Thunder’s Fremantle listed players have put their hand up for selection in the past week, with Harley Balic racking up 33 disposals and Matt Taberner kicking five goals.

Mundy said he could see pressure being applied through strong performances in the WAFL.

The midfielder added that Fremantle had placed a high priority on further enhancing player performance after Peel’s 2016 WAFL premiership season.

“One of the big things that popped up in our review from last year is putting a real emphasis on the guys representing Peel to take our trademark effort wherever they’re playing,” Mundy said.

“They’ve been excellent in their endeavour and their determination,”

“They play as we want to play down (in Mandurah) and we’ve seen that through two great performances so far.”

After naming an initial squad of 25 on Thursday, Fremantle will select their final squad of 22 when the side flies out to Adelaide on Friday.

Mundy said Fremantle faced a tough test against Port Adelaide, after the Power upset 2016 grand finalists Sydney on the Swans’ home turf in round one.

“It doesn’t get any easier for us, “ Mundy said.

“From our end (what Fremantle needs to do) will be really simple,

“We’ve already identified where we need to improve in a general sense and specifically for a number on individuals.

“Our goal will be to train that on the track and get some physical practice under out belts so we can and head over to Adelaide and give it a good crack.”
