David Mundy has received top votes in the 2017 Shadforth Financial Group AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year for round five, with the coaches awarding him 10 out of a possible 10 votes.

Mundy played a crucial role in Fremantle’s comeback win against North Melbourne on Saturday, picking up 12 disposals in the final quarter as Freo prevailed by five points.

The veteran midfielder tallied 30 disposals in total, with six clearances and two marks.

His 10-vote effort comes after picking up seven votes in round four against Melbourne.

Nat Fyfe, Michael Johnson and Stephen Hill also made the tally, with senior coaches Ross Lyon and Brad Scott allocating their votes on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis.

After five rounds Mundy sits tied for ninth with 20 votes, with Adelaide’s Rory Sloane leading with 33 votes.
