Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe has won the 2017 Geoff Christian Medal, an award for the best Fremantle Dockers or West Coast Eagles player in a season.

Fyfe, who previously won the award in 2013 and 2015, joins Matthew Pavlich as the only play to win the award three times.

Fyfe topped the voting with 24, three ahead of runner-up Elliot Yeo while Freo’s Lachie Neale finished third alongside Josh Kennedy with 20.

The medal was established in recognition of Geoff Christian, a valued member of ABC Radio's Sports Talk program for a period of 14 years prior to his death in November 1998.

Christian served as chief football writer of The West Australian from 1961 to 1998 and was posthumously inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame.
