With the addition of Bradley Hill and Alex Pearce to Fremantle’s leadership group on Thursday, the club now has three Indigenous players as leaders, with the pair joining Michael Walters in the seven-strong group.

Hill, 24, hopes that he and 22-year-old Pearce will help bring through a developing Fremantle list, with 23 of Fremantle’s of 44 players aged 22 and under.

The 2017 Doig Medallist said he wasn’t expecting to be nominated but feels his addition will better enable him to play a mentor role.

“Obviously on game day I want to perform but I see one of my good strengths is having that relationship with the younger players,” Hill said.

“Having that good relationship, where I can help them become better players, that’s one of the things that I want to do as a part of the leadership group.

“We’ll be getting that next group of players to push up and go a bit further and have success together.”

With 11 Indigenous players on Fremantle’s list, Hill says he’s pleased to join Fremantle’s leadership group with fellow Indigenous players Walters and Pearce.

“We’ve got a fair few Indigenous boys on this list and to see three of us being in the leadership group, it shows a lot,” Hill said.

“Hopefully, we can get some more coming through, like Brady Grey.

“The leadership group, with three Indigenous boys, it’s probably never happened before so it’s good to be a part of this group.”
