Brennan Cox feels his impressive showing in Fremantle’s three-point win against Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Sunday is a sign of his hard work behind the scenes.

The 19-year-old kicked four goals, the most from his 16-game career so far, with Cox making the most of the opportunities created with four marks inside 50.

Going into the game kicking 8.17 for his career, Cox said he was pleased to be on target with four majors from five scoring shots.

“I was lucky enough to get in the right position and take a few marks and I was able to kick straight, which has been a bit of a struggle lately,” Cox said.

“I’ve been working on my goal kicking at training and after hours but finally it’s paid off in this game.”

Cox was delighted to see Fremantle get over the line against the 2017 grand finalists.

In the past two contests between Freo and Adelaide, the Crows’ average winning margin has been 86 points.

The Fremantle starting 22 also went into the clash as the least-experienced team in round 12, with an average of 59.4 games played.

For an inexperienced outfit, the task was even harder with captain Nat Fyfe suspended and lead ruckman Aaron Sandilands out for the second consecutive week with concussion.

“The boys, I couldn’t be prouder of them,” Cox said.

“It was a great effort from them and we were lucky enough to get the win against the Crows, who are a very worthy team.

“Obviously, having Sandilands and Fyfe out doesn’t help. They’re two very good players but all the boys stepped up and we got the win.”

Cox paid tribute to another young Freo player who starred on the day in Adam Cerra, who collected 30 disposals and delivered eight inside 50s.

“In the midfield, Lachie Neale was playing a bit hurt so he was great for us today and down at half-back Adam Cerra absolutely played a ripper,” Cox said.

“Tommy (Sheridan) has given him the nickname ‘Rolls Royce’ and he’s going to be something special.”
