The Fremantle banner crew were in for a surprise on Monday evening at Cockburn ARC when making their banner for Saturday’s clash with Collingwood at Optus Stadium.

It was the 13th time this season that the cheer squad members had gotten together to make a banner for a Fremantle game at Optus Stadium, but this time they had a few extra helping hands.

As a way to say thank you for their support this season, the Fremantle leadership group of Nat Fyfe, David Mundy, Michael Walters, Lachie Neale, Aaron Sandialands and Alex Pearce came to help put the finishing touches on the banner.

The gesture came in the leadup to Member Thank You Round, which is the club’s chance to say thank you to members for their support in 2018.

“We just wanted to come and show our thanks to the banner crew who come in every fortnight and put in a huge effort to get the banner together,” Pearce said.

“We had a bit of a chat to them and they said it takes about four hours every time, so it really is a huge effort and as we know it looks great each game day.

“It was great to meet all the people behind it and thank them for all the time they put in.”

Pearce said he hopes for a big crowd as Fremantle chase their ninth win of the season.

“The fans have been fantastic all year in supporting us,” Pearce said.

“We’d love to see all of our members and fans come to the game on the weekend and, hopefully, we’ll put in a good performance and try and see them off for the year.”

Fremantle’s banners for interstate games are made by the Victorian cheer squad, who also travel to show their support for interstate games played outside of Victoria. To them, we also say a big THANK YOU!
