There’s nothing but good news to report on the HBF Injury Update this week, with Freo sports science manager Jason Weber revealing the club’s injured stars are progressing well.

Weber said the club was pleased to see Luke McPharlin (knee) and Michael Walters (ankle) out on the track at Tuesday’s training session, although Michael Johnson (knee) has yet to start running.

“They’re all progressing as per planned,” Weber said.

“Michael (Johnson) hasn’t got out on the field just yet, his knee was slightly worse than "Woosha’s" (McPharlin), but ‘Woosh’ got out and had a run today.

“Michael (Walters) got on the field today and had a little jog and got moving.

“He’s out of the (moon) boot, which is a really great spot for him to be in. His strength’s progressing well and he’s on target for a game later in the year.”

Weber said Matt de Boer (knee) was close to resuming.

“He’s constantly trying to convince us he’s ready to go,” he said.

“He’s not far off, but he’s certainly up and going into his agility and speed work, so he’s pressing along nicely.”

Weber said the team had pulled up well from last Saturday’s game against Richmond.

Alex Silvagni copped a knock to the ribs and Danyle Pearce was subbed out after being ill during the week, but both should be available to play against Brisbane this Saturday night.

“Alex took an unfortunate knock in the ribs but he was able to play the game out,” Weber said.

“He’s a little bit sore today (Tuesday), but we’re anticipating him being available for selection later in the week.

“Danyle had to battle a pretty strong flu throughout the week and still had some symptoms late, and it affected him a little bit, so we just got him out and got Colin Sylvia on to fill the gap.”

Weber said there was also positive news for young second-year forward Max Duffy, who has been out with a shoulder injury.

“Max had quite a significant shoulder injury, it’s been very complex and some nerve damage,” he said.

“But that’s starting to resolve itself and we were able to get him into football training today (Tuesday) and, hopefully, get him a game in the coming weeks.”
