Recalled ruckman Jon Griffin is relishing spending time forward for Peel Thunder and could prove a useful tall target for Fremantle inside 50.

Griffin booted three goals for Peel last round and could help Fremantle rediscover its forward impetus against Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday night.

He said he had spent time working on his forward skills with coaches Peter Sumich and Simon Eastaugh.

Reward for effort for Griff

“I made it a real focus this year to spend a bit more time in the forward line,” Griffin said.

“Working with ‘Suma’ and ‘Easty’ at the club, I’ve been able to really get to understand the forward role.

“Hopefully I can spend some more time up there.”

Griffin, who extended his contract by two years earlier this season, said he was looking forward to his first AFL game since Round 18 in 2014.

“I’ve had some strong form and I am pretty confident coming into the game,” he said.

Forwards need help: Spurr

“I’m excited to put the purple jumper on.”

Griffin said his focus this season was on consistent performances for Peel.

“I just wanted to make sure my performance at WAFL level was strong,” he said.

“I’ve been lucky enough to get selected.”

Fremantle play Carlton at Domain Stadium on Saturday 18 July. Bounce down is at 5.40pm.
