Second-year player Alex Pearce never really had AFL players come to his school as a junior, so he relishes every opportunity to meet young fans.

Pearce grew up in the Tasmanian northwest coastal town of Burnie, the same place teammate Brady Grey hails from.

At Home with Subes: Grey and Pearce

“Growing up in Tasmania we didn’t have a lot of AFL clubs come talk to us being in the area that we were in,” Pearce said.

Brady Grey signs anything that he's given at Willandra Primary School, even school bags.

So when the Fremantle defender joined teammates Aaron Sandilands, Paul Duffield and Grey at Willandra Primary School on Tuesday, he was excited to give back to the community.

“It’s great to be able to come out to the kids and let them know about the AFL lifestyle and give them a little bit of a head start in their footy careers," Pearce said.

“Hopefully they can follow our foot steps.”

Alex Pearce is mobbed by school kids following their school visit.

The Fremantle players took a number of classes through basic skill drills and then finished off with a couple of games.

The 19-year-old admitted that although speaking to a classroom full of kids was still new to him, he noticed how the experienced senior players dealt with the challenge of public speaking.

“Aaron (Sandilands) did handball the introduction off to Brady,” the defender laughed.

“In their old age they’ve grown pretty wise and they know when to handball off the task.”

Aaron Sandilands the true professional knows how to work a crowd.

The whole playing group attended 13 schools across the metropolitan area on Tuesday, teaching kids about healthy lifestyles and being active.
