Injured defender Alex Pearce remains a chance to return from a broken thumb and play for Fremantle against Brisbane at Optus Stadium.

Pearce is one of five potential inclusions for Sunday’s clash, joined by Michael Walters, Ethan Hughes, Scott Jones and Cameron Sutcliffe in the extended squad of 26.

The 23-year-old has impressed as a key back during 12 appearances this season, shutting down a number of the AFL’s high-impact forwards.

Fremantle will need to make at least one change with Connor Blakely ruled out with a knee injury sustained at training on Wednesday.

Blakely is Fremantle’s only omission at this stage.

The inclusion of Walters in the final team is virtually certain, with the star forward returning from a one-game suspension.

Walters has been at his elite best for Fremantle again this season, starring in either a midfield or forward role. He has kicked 14 goals and averaged 20.2 disposals from 10 appearances in 2018.

Both Ethan Hughes and Cam Sutcliffe have played one game this season, with Sutcliffe appearing at AFL level in round one and Hughes in round seven.

Hughes has been one of Peel Thunder’s best from seven WAFL games this season, racking up a season-high 28 touches and 11 marks against West Perth in round 10.

First-year ruckman Scott Jones has made two appearances at AFL level this season, playing against Collingwood and Adelaide in rounds 11 and 12.

Fremantle’s final 22 will be announced at 3pm on Friday via fremantlefc.com.au.
