Matching up on Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe is probably the toughest assignment in footy at the moment and it’s no wonder, with the midfielder leading the competition in one-on-one statistics.

Fyfe is ranked first for contested possessions, contested possessions per game and contested marks.

He has averaged a remarkable 17.9 contested possessions per game this year, meaning more than half of his average disposals of 30.3 are won in a contest.

Tough win over Dogs pleasing: Fyfe

Senior coach Ross Lyon said Fyfe was a “competitive animal” during an interview earlier this year.

“He is a beast of a man,” he said.

“He’s real special, he’s just a competitive animal.”

Fyfe has put on more than 20kg since arriving at Fremantle at pick 20 in 2009.

He is an imposing figure at 190cm and about 91kg.
