Fremantle has shored up the futures of Lee Spurr, Alex Silvagni and Jack Hannath, with the trio extending their contracts.

Spurr was due to come out of contract at the end of 2015 but has extended his stay at the club by a year through to the end of 2016.

Silvagni and Hannath would have been out of contract at the end of this season but will now be at Freo until at least the end of 2016 after both agreed to a two-year extension.

General manager of player management Brad Lloyd said the club was delighted to have the three players extend their contracts.

“Lee has been a great contributor and leader over the past few years since coming off the rookie list. His professionalism and work ethic have ensured he has performed at a high level for the club throughout his time here,” he said.

“Alex is a genuine competitor who has had a strong focus on getting the best out of himself since coming to the club via the rookie draft. He is an important member of our playing list.

“Jack developed well in the SANFL post his 18th year and was rewarded with selection in the Pre-Season Draft. He has made a solid contribution in AFL games since his arrival and we look forward to his continued development as a ruckman for the club.”

A major factor for 26-year-olds Spurr and Silvagni in signing was faith.

Spurr was overlooked at four drafts before Freo picked him up.

“Fremantle gave me my first opportunity as a mature-age player and showed faith in me and I want to repay that faith that they've shown in me,” he said.

“I've made a lot of great friendships over here and I want to be a big part of Fremantle going forward.”

Silvagni was also grateful to Fremantle for giving him his first crack at AFL.

“The club has shown faith in me, so I'll show faith in the club by sticking around,” he said.

“I love the club, I love everything about it, the players, the coaches, the supporters, they're fantastic and I'm really enjoying being here.”

Hannath, 23, said making the move from South Australia took some getting used to, but he was now settled in Western Australia.

“The club has been really supportive of me and it's been good for my footy and me as a person to grow, that's why I was really keen to stay on,” he said.

“I've really enjoyed my time at the club, I've enjoyed the opportunity to play senior footy and I obviously want to keep getting that opportunity.

“I feel my footy has been constantly improving and all the resources and work that gets put into you is second to none, so I really want to make the most of that opportunity.”

The current state of the club also played a major role in keeping the trio in WA.

“We've got a fantastic culture here and a fantastic group of guys,” Silvagni said.

“I think that's a big factor for me, the people that I work with. I really enjoy being here.

“I've got a bit of unfinished business and I'm looking forward to what we can do with this group.”

Spurr added it was an exciting time to be at Fremantle, which he said was now like a second family to him.

“I was from Queensland and went to Adelaide and then I came here. It's like being a part of a family away from home. It's really strong and I want to be a part of that.”

All three players were originally from the Eastern States and were drafted by the club in their 20s. Silvagni (2009) and Spurr (2011) were rookie drafted, while Hannath was a 2012 Pre-Season Draft pick.
