Nat Fyfe isn’t taking his position as Fremantle captain for granted, thanking his teammates for putting their faith in the midfielder for a second consecutive year.

The 2015 Brownlow Medallist heads a leadership group which includes two new faces in Alex Pearce and Bradley Hill joining Lachie Neale, Michael Walters, David Mundy and Aaron Sandilands.

“I’m really grateful for the support from the players for voting me back in as captain,” Fyfe said.

“I learnt a lot from my first year and I’ve got enormous growth still to go.

“I’m excited by the opportunity and really keen to lead this club for the next couple of years and see what we can achieve.”

In Pearce and Hill, Fremantle added two young players to their leadership group with more than 50 per cent of Freo’s list aged 22 and younger.

“Alex is 22 and Bradley is 24, they’ve got good touch points throughout the rest of our young list,” Fyfe said.

“With our experienced leaders in David Mundy and Aaron Sandilands, we still have really good access and reach through our whole group.

“We’ve got through our pre-season and we’re always full of optimism at this time of year, we’ve done a lot of hard work and we’re ready to see what we can do.”

There was a new method for determining the leadership group in 2017, with Fremantle utilising performance psychologist Dr Sean Richardson to help run the selection process.

“The leadership voting process was a slightly different one and far more comprehensive, which allowed us to give feedback to the whole list on where different guys stood and the different values we have as our trademark,” Fyfe said.

“Out of that came our leadership group.”
