Brennan Cox is the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for round 12 after an impressive performance against Adelaide in Fremantle’s three point win over the Crows at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

The 19-year-old finished his sixth game for the season with four goals from five scoring shots and four telling marks inside 50.

Cox, who was taken at pick 41 in the 2016 National Draft and made his debut in round 12 2017, had kicked 8.17 in his previous 15 games.

“I was lucky enough to get in the right position and take a few marks and I was able to kick straight, which has been a bit of a struggle lately,” Cox said.

“I’ve been working on my goal kicking at training and after hours but finally it paid off in this game.”

Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon said Cox’s Rising Star nomination was reward for effort.

“We have been impressed with how Brennan has continued to build since coming back into the team,” Lyon said.

“Brennan has continued to work very hard on all aspects of his game, including how he prepares and trains.

“He played an important role in our win over Adelaide and the Rising Star nomination is reward for effort. We want to see Brennan continue to build and strive for consistency in every game he plays.”
