Fremantle legend Matthew Pavlich is on the cusp of joining one of the AFL’s most elite clubs, heraldsun.com.au is reporting.

It’s an achievement not even goal kicking greats Tony Lockett, Jason Dunstall and Gary Ablett Snr could accomplish or long-serving stars Brent Harvey and Simon Madden.

Just four players have played 300 games and kicked 700 goals in VFL/AFL history and Pavlich needs just one more goal to join them, the heraldsun.com.au report said.

He would join four of the biggest names to ever play the game; Gordon Coventry, Leigh Matthews, Kevin Bartlett and Bernie Quinlan.

Pavlich kicked two goals in the Freo Dockers’ loss to Adelaide in Round 21, taking him to 699 career majors in 352 games but is set to sit out this week’s clash against GWS meaning he has just one more game, against the Western Bulldogs, to reach the milestone.

Pavlich is due to play his last game for Fremantle in round 23 against the Western Bulldogs at Domain Stadium, bowing out as the greatest player from either WA club.

Pavlich finished as Fremantle’s leading goalkicker eight times, kicking 70 goals in a season twice 71 in 2006 and 72 in 2007.

A six-time All-Australian, ironically Pavlich was first selected at fullback in 2002 before moving forward on a more permanent basis.

The VFL/AFL’s greatest goalkicker, Tony Lockett, kicked 1360 majors in just 281 games, overtaking Collingwood immortal Coventry’s record in 1999.

Dunstall’s career was cut short by injury after 269 games with 1254 goals to his name while Ablett Snr played 248 for 1030 goals.

Richmond’s Jack Titus retired in 1943 - after injury and the Tigers deciding he was too old at 35 - leaving him agonisingly short of the 300-700 mark with 970 goals in 294 games.

He would kick 119 goals for VFA club Coburg in 1945, proving his age had not diminished his ability.
