The selection table

Fremantle – Nick Suban and Aaron Sandilands should return, but the club will still be without suspended captain Matthew Pavlich and injured stars Luke McPharlin and Hayden Ballantyne.

Adelaide – The Crows have a short injury list, but the players on it are as influential as any. Patrick Dangerfield will miss, while Taylor Walker and Brent Reilly are done for the season.

X Factors

Fremantle – Stephen Hill: The brilliant midfielder is coming off a disappointing 11-disposal game against Richmond. He will be smarting from that effort and the best tonic could be a date under the Patersons Stadium lights.

Adelaide – Andy Otten: The defender was swung forward with immediate success against Geelong. He kicked two big goals, including one from a brilliant one-handed grab against Cat Harry Taylor. Otten could play forward again on Saturday night.

Key Match-ups

Lee Spurr v Matthew Wright: Wright has been a bit down this season, but he played well against Fremantle in 2012 and kicked four goals, including the match-winner, against Geelong last round. Spurr usually gets the goal-kicking small forward, so this match-up could eventuate.

Ryan Crowley v Rory Sloane: Sloane has an excellent record against Fremantle, but his performances have come with Dangerfield and Scott Thompson getting the hard tags. If Crowley is sent to him this Saturday night, it will be a big test for the budding Adelaide star against the AFL’s elite stopper.

Stephen Hill v Nathan van Berlo: Hill is always a target for a tag, and the Adelaide skipper van Berlo has performed the role on the Freo wingman before. Either way, expect van Berlo to play a run-with role on one of Freo’s midfield stars.

Chris Mayne v Ben Rutten: Rutten manned Mayne for much of the round 10 match between the teams. The experienced Crows’ defender held the Freo forward to one goal and 16 disposals.

Dream Team

Fremantle: It seems Michael Barlow is the weekly fantasy tip, but the fact is he is a Dream Team gun. He had 32 possessions and a game-high 118 DT points against the Crows earlier this year.

Adelaide: Rory Sloane has scored well against Fremantle in the past, but it’s unclear how the absence of Dangerfield will affect him given the Crowley tag will linger over his head. He does have scores of 112, 98 and 150 in three of his past four against Fremantle, but never with the Crowley tag.

Keys to victory

Freo will be happy if: Its ball-use improves significantly from what the side dished up against Richmond. The effort was there in that match, now the skill has to follow suit.

Adelaide will be happy if: The strong form of Brad Crouch and Bernie Vince holds up in the midfield, somewhat countering the loss of Dangerfield.
