Thanks to the AFL’s substitutes vest, two top-notch Freo midfielders will be available cheap-as-chips for coaches to add to their Dream Teams.
They are Michael Barlow and David Mundy and you can pick them up online here - all you need is a computer, or iPhone, and your Toyota AFL Dream Team login details.
After three games, two of which were in the Kermit-coloured vest, Barlow has dropped $25,400 to be a ridiculously affordable $399,400.
Mundy played his first game of the season last Saturday, coming on as the sub in the second quarter.
His $474,400 price-tag will change after his third game and, with a current breakeven of 207, he’s a certainty to fall heavier in value than the Greek currency.
Now, on face value, Barlow and ‘Barra’ only have averages of 72.7 and 49 DT points per game respectively this season.
But, as the following table shows, averages can be deceiving when compared to DT points-per-minute:
*Fremantle has played a total of 366 minutes and 23 seconds in 2012 | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DT Average per game | Percentage of game minutes on ground (per game) | DT Points-per-minute average | 100% game-time on ground points average | ||
| David Mundy | 49 | 46.4% | 0.9 | 110.7 | |
| Michael Barlow | 72.7 | 54.6% | 0.92 | 112 | |
| Luke McPharlin | 67 | 99.6% | 0.55 | 67.2 | |
| The Patersons Stadium Pigeon | 0 | 100% | 0 | 0 | |
| MCG pitch invaders last Friday night | -6 | 0.02% | -300 | -36,000 | |
| MCG security guards last Friday night | 8 | 0.02% | 400 | 48,000 | |
So what does this table tell us? It tells us that, while tireless and courageous, the Patersons Stadium Pigeon is a terrible Dream Team performer.
The same can be said about the MCG pitch invaders last Friday night. While they tried desperately hard to touch the ball and lay a few tackles, the only ones getting tackled were themselves, earning negative points for the frees-against.
The security guards on the other hand scored sensationally, laying two tackles in the 15 seconds of on-ground time they had.
Back to Barlow and ‘Barra’. As the above table shows, these two are well on track to average in the 100s now that the green vest appears to be a distant memory for both of them.
Grab them while they’re cheap.
