While all eyes are on Saturday’s RAC Derby at Fremantle Oval, Fremantle are also ready to take their full squad east for a four-game travel trip, according to senior coach Trent Cooper.

After facing West Coast in round one, Fremantle will play GWS, Richmond and Collingwood in Victoria before taking on North Melbourne in Tasmania.

The next home game is scheduled in round six against Carlton on Sunday 12 February at Fremantle Oval.

“The players are all managing to get across and we’ve got a lot more staff coming,” Cooper said.

“We’re fully focused on round one but with an eye on our period of extended travel. Next week, we’ll go through all our planning for that.

“A lot of the things are in place for that time away, we’ve got three games in Victoria and one in Tasmania and we’re really looking forward to that part of it, getting away, being professional athletes for that time, even though we know there’s going to be some challenges in keeping ourselves and the community safe in those times.”

Captain Hayley Miller said the players would benefit from working in a full time environment.

“We want the opportunity to be full-time athletes and we never have before,” Miller said.

“I think a lot of the girls are relishing that opportunity of being a full-time athlete and being footy focused.”
