The Fremantle Football Club welcomes the WA Government’s decision to open the State border on 3 March and also allow 75 per cent crowd capacity for home games at Optus Stadium.

The border opening comes just under three weeks before Fremantle’s round one AFL game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on 20 March.

It means the team will be able to return for their round two home game against St Kilda on 27 March at Optus Stadium without the need for quarantine.

Fremantle’s AFLW team is scheduled to play the rest of the home and away season in WA, however the open border will allow free movement for any potential finals games.

Garlick said the decision was an important one for the Club.

“We welcome the WA Government’s decision to open the borders on 3 March, which gives us much needed clarity as we prepare for the 2022 AFL season and a potential AFLW finals series,” Garlick said.

“It means our teams will now be able to travel freely in and out of WA and bring a degree of normalcy back to our training programs.

“The safety of the community has always been the WA Government’s priority and we will continue to do everything on our end to keep our players, staff and the community safe.”

Garlick said the Club was now able to prepare for an AFL season that initially allows 75 per cent crowd capacity at Optus Stadium.

“It’s exciting to know that we will be reunited with the Purple Army on 27 March against St Kilda and the players will be especially thrilled with this news,” Garlick said.

“Given the 75 per cent capacity limits, our seated members will be given priority access, so we encourage our supporters to renew now to ensure they don’t miss out on some of the big games that start the season.”

Following the St Kilda clash, Fremantle’s next three home games will be at night at Optus Stadium, taking on GWS on Saturday 9 April in round four, Carlton for the Len Hall Tribute Game on Saturday 23 April in round 6 and Fremantle’s first Friday night game since 2016 against North Melbourne on 6 May in round 8.
