Defender Griffin Logue believes Freo’s backline is continuing to get ‘better and better’ after an impressive 34-point win over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night at Optus Stadium.

The highly contested game saw an especially great performance from the Club’s defensive line that saw them apply lots of pressure across the field.

Griffin Logue was brought in as a late change after defender Alex Pearce was taken out due to a foot injury and finished the game with 17 disposals and three tackles.

“Alex was behind me the whole time and it was good the boys had full faith,” Logue told Fox Footy.

“It was a real weird build-up for me but really happy with the result.”

Logue commented on how it was great to see the younger boys in defence continuing to grow strength to strength.

The backline was able to stop GWS from kicking a goal throughout the final term, while Freo was able to kick six goals in a row.

“’Coxy’ (Brennan Cox) and I thought we were pretty young but the boys under us are younger and every year they keep getting better and better from a younger age,” Logue said.

“They went away in the off season with a few key focuses and really went hard at it, and it’s paying off dividends for them now, so it’s so good to see them doing that.

“’Youngy’ (Hayden Young), ‘Chappy’ (Heath Chapman), ‘Walks’ (Brandon Walker) you just see it and (Jordan) Clark, he’s been such a great asset for us.

“There’s so many more just waiting ‘Hughesy’ (Ethan Hughes) and Joel (Western), we’ve got such good depth down there and it’s so great.”

The 20th anniversary Starlight Purple Haze game, proudly presented by South 32, holds a special place in the Starlight ambassador’s heart as the Club were able to raise $448,699 for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

“It’s a game close to my heart being an ambassador of Starlight,” Logue said.

“The clubs been behind it for 20 years, so it’s such a great occasion and I saw on the screen after every goal how much money we’ve been raising for it, so if we can do that and get to play footy at the same time it’s a pretty good result.”
