Sam Switkowski in action at training at Optus Stadium on Thursday.

There’s mixed news for Fremantle’s forwardline in the Perth Radiological Clinic Injury Update for Round 22, according to Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell.

Small forward Sam Switkowski is set to make his return from a back injury while key forward Matt Taberner is likely to miss the rest of the home and away season after sustaining a calf strain against the Western Bulldogs.

Captain Nat Fyfe is also pushing to return from a hamstring injury for round 23 against GWS.

Switkowski last played for Fremantle in round 13 against Hawthorn while Fyfe injured his hamstring in round 19 against Richmond.

“Sam has trained really well and we’ll look to get him involved at main training on Wednesday, he’ll be a test for selection on the weekend,” Bell said.

“Nat also trained really well, but he’s more likely to be round 23, he has a few boxes to tick before we give him the all clear for that round.”

While Taberner is unlikely to return before round 23, Fremantle have a guaranteed place in the finals series and he will have more time to recover due to the pre-finals bye.

“Matt has sustained a moderate grade calf injury,” Bell said.

“He’ll miss a few weeks with that, but he’s a really diligent preparer so there’s no doubt we’ll see him out there pretty soon.”

Young key forward Sebit Kuek will also need to prove his fitness if he is to play for Peel against South Fremantle at Rushton Park on Saturday.

“Sebit still has a little bit of a calf issue,” Bell said.

“He’s another one that will be involved in main training before we make a decision, so he’s a test for the weekend.”
