David Mundy taking on the entire GWS Giants team in Canberra in 2019.

Fremantle have made a record 21 changes for Saturday’s clash with GWS at Manuka Oval in Canberra, bringing in 21 David Mundys for what will be the final home and away game of their career.

With the 37-year-old Mundy nearing his retirement, Fremantle are now unleashing the cloning technology used to keep a youthful version of the midfielder playing for the past 19 years.

Only David Mundy retains his place from last week’s RAC Derby, with the remaining David Mundys coming in for Brandon Walker, Brennan Cox, Jordan Clark, Hayden Young, Alex Pearce, Luke Ryan, James Aish, Andrew Brayshaw, Blake Acres, Lachie Schultz, Sam Switkowski, Darcy Tucker, Michael Frederick, Rory Lobb, Michael Walters, Sean Darcy, Will Brodie, Caleb Serong, Nathan O’Driscoll, Griffin Logue and Heath Chapman.

The game will still be celebrated as Michael Walters' 200th in the AFL, named as a medical sub alongside three David Mundys as the emergencies.

As the AFL are yet to outlaw cloning technology in their games, they have stepped in and ordered Fremantle to share their research with the Giants, who have since named 22 Matt de Boers.

In his mid week media conference, Senior Coach Justin Longmuir responded to speculation that the 22 de Boers would tag the 22 Mundys.

“It’s an interesting concept, I’m not sure if the ball will escape the centre square,” Longmuir said.

“They’re good mates and know each other’s games well. I’d back Dave in to get a clearance by the final term, and perhaps his second career goal after the siren.”

Mundy currently sits in outright ninth in the AFL’s all-time games played list on 373 games and with the 22 games credited from Saturday he will move into sixth on 395 games ahead of Robert Harvey, Simon Madden and Craig Bradley.

Longmuir was asked if he would name at least five Mundys in Fremantle’s first final to ensure he reaches the 400-game milestone.

“Perhaps, it will depend on how they all pull up a fortnight after going up against the Matt de Boers,” Longmuir said.
