Fremantle captain Hayley Miller says their last quarter drop-off against Melbourne will be reviewed when the side meets at the Club tonight.

In a hard fought contest at Fremantle Oval on Sunday, Freo trailed the third-placed Demons by just four points early in the final term – but Melbourne stormed home with the last four goals of the match.

“Look, it happened really quickly,” Miller told SEN WA Breakfast.

“They are a really good side and they move the ball quickly. We probably just weren’t switched on enough right at the end of the game.

“There was just a few crumbing goals they got, so it is disappointing. We’ll review that tonight.”

Miller believed the 30-point scoreline didn’t entirely reflect the close nature of the round six contest.

“Up until 10 minutes to go there were four points in it,” Miller said.

“Unfortunately in the last 10 minutes we just fell away and they kicked a few quick ones.

“It doesn’t look great on the scoreboard, but from our point of view - and how the season’s been going - it was a real positive.”

Fremantle now have a six-day break to prepare for Saturday’s clash with the second-placed Crows at Adelaide’s Unley Oval.

Miller also responded to recent criticism of the AFLW competition by media commentator Steve Price.

“The natural reaction is to be a bit defensive about it,” Miller said.

“I haven’t read the article – everyone’s got their opinion. I think the most pleasing thing for me is that I heard about the backlash towards him before I actually heard about the article he’d written.

“The real story is what the AFLW is doing for women and girls sport – and the opportunities.

“A new competition is just going to take time to get there.

“You can have this debate all day whether it was expanded too quickly – if it should’ve been small and just built like that.

“But, if you build something it takes time. If you plant a plant, you give it water and allow it to grow, it will grow. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time. We’ll get there, you’ve just got to allow it time.”
