Fremantle’s Emma O’Driscoll has capped an amazing year by being named in the AFL Players’ 22under22 final team for the third consecutive season.

O’Driscoll was selected in both teams in 2022 and was a shining light in Freo’s difficult Season 7.

This season, O'Driscoll ranked in the top ten of most selected players in the fan-voted 22under22 process, chosen in 70 per cent of teams.

Fremantle’s Head of Football Operations and Performance Bob Murphy paid tribute to the 22-year-old livewire who starred in defence and attack with a number of injuries to key players.

“We had a year when we had to fill a few spots and we often turned to Emma,” Murphy said.

“She’s versatile, she embraces a number of different roles and she just tries so damn hard.

“She’s incredibly brave on the field, but also incredibly brave off it.

“There’s no-one more passionate about the Club and her teammates.”

O’Driscoll played every game in Season 7 and stepped up from round one when Fremantle lost All Australian defender Janelle Cuthbertson and lockdown specialist Jess Low to injury against Brisbane at the Gabba.

Averaging 11 disposals and three tackles a game, O’Driscoll gathered a season high 18 disposals in a narrow defeat to Adelaide in round seven.

But Murphy singled out her game against the Western Bulldogs in round three as her most outstanding performance for the year.

“She played her best footy as a defender – even though she was used in all sorts of positions,” Murphy said.

“Her performance against the Western Bulldogs was as good a game from a defender that I’ve seen in the AFLW.”

Murphy believes the sky is the limit for O’Driscoll who is 35 games into her AFLW career.

“She’s such a natural defender but because she’s so powerful and she’s such an incredible runner with speed and endurance she can kind of play anywhere,” Murphy said.
