Friday 10 June is Denim for Disability day and a number of Fremantle players have donned the double denim to help raise awareness for a great cause.

The campaign calls for schools, workplaces and community groups to wear their best denim outfit to raise funds and promote awareness for West Australians with disability.

The cause is very important to Freo’s Tommy Sheridan, who welcomed two very special guests to the club on Tuesday.

“We had Emily Prior and Georgia Farnan from Ability Centre come down and the boys got behind the Denim for Disability campaign which is great,” Sheridan said.

“We had a few photos with them and showed them around the place. They’re big Freo supporters.”

Ability Centre has been a great source of support for Emily, 9, who has Cerebral Palsy, and Georgia, 7, who has Dystonia. Sheridan, who had the pleasure of taking the girls on a guided tour of Freo HQ, got a special thrill of showing his long-term friend Georgia his training ground.

Turning a dream into a reality

“I have a close connection with Georgia’s father, Greg, and Georgia accesses Ability Centre for her therapy. So to give back to them and to be an ambassador for Denim for Disability was a really humbling experience,” he said.

“I’ve built a really nice relationship with Greg, and he’s a close mate who assisted me and helped me settle in when I first moved over from Victoria. In that time, I’ve got to know Georgia.”

A passionate Sheridan had a simple message for anyone looking to help out such a great cause.

“The campaign runs for all of June, just rock your best denim outfit and help raise awareness and donate money through either a gold coin donation or at abilitycentre.com.au.”

Ability Centre hopes to raise $10,000 from the day to assist in continuing their ongoing support of those with disabilities as well as their families.
