There was some playful banter between the Brayshaw brother Andrew and Angus early on in Walyalup’s hard-fought 12.7 (79) to 10.12 (72) win against Narrm on Saturday at the MCG.

Walyalup prevailed by seven points in a see-sawing contest that was high-pressure and saw heated exchanges between players on both teams.

The Brayshaws were among the most important players on both teams. Andrew led Walyalup with 29 disposals and 13 contested possessions while Angus had 27 disposals and 10 contested possessions.

After one tussle that saw Caleb Serong’s jumper get torn, Andrew Brayshaw joked with his brother, making a gesture of strapping on an imaginary helmet.

“I think I just said, ‘strap in mate, it’s going to be a big day’,” Andrew Brayshaw told Fox Footy.

“There were a couple (of incidents). He got me a few times, I got him a few times, but it’s all love.”

There were almost as many tackles as points scored, with Narrm narrowly winning the count 75-73.

Brayshaw led Walyalup with seven tackles alongside Jaeger O’Meara and Lachie Schultz, and the midfielder praised the whole team’s defence.

“It was a really hard-fought win, they kept coming, kept putting scores on the board,” Brayshaw said.

“We just had to stay composed and keep buffering their pressure and I think we really did.

“Our defence was massive, we’ve got guys back there who you can just trust to go back with the flight. They’re super brave back there led by Alex Pearce. It was a super job from them.”

Jye Amiss kicked his fourth three-goal haul of the season, and the 19-year-old now has 11 goals from the past four games.

Brayshaw praised the forward, as well as Luke Jackson who went full time into the ruck after Sean Darcy was subbed off with a hamstring injury.

“Luke Jackson stood up, he was huge taking grabs, putting it in really good areas for the mids,” Brayshaw said.

“It’s a big game to play against your old side in front of your old crowd so well done to him.

“Jye was huge, he obviously presents really well forward but has been able to show he can do it at ground level as well. He kicked a few big goals for us, he was massive.”
