Liam Henry is starting to show the results of his hard work off the field, according to teammate Caleb Serong.

Both Henry and Serong were top 10 picks at the 2019 draft, and Serong said it was important to be patient with the emerging 21-year-old.

A fortnight ago, the most disposals Henry had tallied in a game was 21.

In the past two weeks, he has racked up 32 disposals against Essendon and 33 against the Western Bulldogs while playing on the wing.

Serong said Fremantle needed a player of Henry’s capabilities on the outside.

“Liam’s already been talking about wanting to be a consistent player and being really reliable on the wing for us, which is what we need,” Serong said.

“It’s not just about the offensive stuff he does, we really value the defensive stuff - his ability to pressure, lay tackles and get back and support our defence, which he does really well.”

Serong highlighted the work Henry has been putting in behind the scenes as he finds his feet at AFL level.

“It’s been a couple of years now where he’s been putting in the work,” Serong said.

“He would have liked to have played a bit more footy at AFL level up to this point. He hasn’t let it affect his ability to get to work and get better.

“It can take some players a little bit longer. We’ve learned he’s always had the attitude to get better and improve. I think you see that coming to fruition now.

“Sometimes it’s a bit of confidence and being able to play at the level. One game can often spark that and give you a bit of a boost and hopefully that was him last week.

“It’s just great to see him play two good games in a row, show a bit of consistency and hopefully he can keep it going. I love having his speed and class when we need it.”
