Josh Corbett excelled up forward against Geelong on Saturday after booting his first two goals in purple since arriving west via the trade period late last year.

The key forward, previously having played for Gold Coast, has lined up for Peel Thunder for the majority of 2023 but has earnt senior opportunities in rounds six and 19 this year or Fremantle.

Corbett was part of a Freo attack that saw Lachie Schultz, Michael Frederick, Sam Sturt, Jye Amiss, Michael Walters and Sam Switkowski each impact the scoreboard to down the reigning premiers by seven points on their home deck.

Corbett ran through a number of his teammates who he felt had impressed.

ALEX PEARCE (18 disposals, a game-high 14 intercepts, eight marks, six rebound 50s)
He was absolutely outstanding I thought 'Moose'. His ability to make really decisive decisions and roll off when he needed to and win his one-on-ones was great, which is his one wood. His leadership has been absolutely outstanding. I love playing with him, it was a really great game from him.

HAYDEN YOUNG (19 disposals, five tackles, 356 metres gained)
I thought 'Youngy' was outstanding in the middle. His ability to use the ball really well, his pressure, his hunt and his drive was on show and I think he will definitely be putting his hand up to stay in the middle for sure!

MICHAEL FREDERICK (two goals including an incredible goal from deep in the pocket)
I was about 30 metres out from goal and I couldn’t believe my eyes to be honest with you! It kind of reminded me of Gary Ablett junior, it was sort of in the same pocket. I’m not saying it was at the same level as that, but he gave it a fair crack! He did an amazing job today and provided great outlets and great running.

CALEB SERONG (29 disposals seven clearances, six tackles, 101 AFL Fantasy) & ANDY BRAYSHAW (28 disposals, 11 tackles, eight score inv., 122 AFL Fantasy points)
Their work rate from contest to contest in and under was excellent and they got to their griding best. They were in there with big Luke Jackson, they did a great job all the midfield boys. The game really challenged them, they are extremely fit boys and I thought as the game went on they were able to wear the Cats down and really got going.

ALL THE HIGHLIGHTS

ETHAN HUGHES (100th milestone game)
He epitomises the trademark of Fremantle. He is no fuss and the way he takes the contest and bodylines the ball is so great. We saw some highlights of him yesterday and some of the highlights were literally him just going harder and stronger than anyone else. He epitomises what Fremantle is, and he lives and breathes the trademark which we all aspire to.

CORBETT’S OWN PERFORMANCE (two goals, seven marks, four score inv.)
I was really pleased. I’ve got to give a fair bit of credit to the boys particularly the mids in the second and third quarter. They really ramped it up and they were able to give us some really good look and entries up forward.

CORBETT’S FIRST YEAR AT FREMANTLE
I have really enjoyed it and coming here I knew it was going to be a challenge to fight for spots in the senior team which is what you want. You want the boys in the reserves to be pushing people to be able to get everyone better as a group. I think I have evolved and had to learn a few little craft things which have helped me at AFL level. At the end of the day, we are all one forward unit.
