Fremantle defender Ethan Hughes is looking forward to his 10th season at the Club with the hopes of playing finals again in 2024.

“It always flies past and you always hear about when players have left the game or they’re about to leave, and you really want to enjoy your time while you are here. It certainly flies by and I’ve loved every minute of it,” Hughes told media Tuesday morning.

“This year we want to build that consistency and perform better over the season and would love to get back and have another crack at finals.”

The 101-gamer had stints on the wing in 2023, but said he is looking to move back to defence this season, providing an opportunity for the Club’s youth to grasp the challenge of taking up that role.

“Over the pre-season, I’ve just been down back and have been building that connection with my back six or seven teammates down there and the whole collective group of the backline. I think that’s where I’ll be trying to play my football this year,” The 29-year-old said.

“I loved my time there (on the wing) last year and it provided me with a new challenge, that's something that I was really excited about going into last season.

“With a few injuries and what happened last year, I ended up shuffling myself back to the backline where I was able to reconnect with my teammates down there.

“We’ve got a lot of young players who are coming through the wing role and a few midfielders who run their rotation out there, so there is certainly a lot of players who are vying for that spot and it’s an exciting time for the Club.
