Fremantle has confirmed an RAC Derby debutant for this Sunday in midfielder Tilly Banfield as she dons the purple for the first time.

The 20-year-old joined Fremantle at the end of 2024 through the AFLW Rookie Draft, making the switch over to AFLW from hockey.

The cross-coder found out the exciting news alongside her teammates in Thursday afternoon’s team meeting, where an extra slide appeared at the end of their PowerPoint.

Establishing herself as an elite runner early on in time trials and throughout pre-season, Banfield adds speed, athleticism and relentless work rate to Fremantle’s side.

Since her arrival at the Club, Banfield has impressed her coaches and teammates with her professionalism and dedication to learning her craft.

Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said Banfield’s debut is well-deserved recognition for the hard work she has put in since crossing over to AFLW.

“We’re absolutely delighted for Tilly to make her debut this weekend,” Heffernan said.

“From the moment she walked through the doors, she has applied herself to every aspect of the program and has continued to push herself to grow as a footballer.

“Tilly is constantly in Lisa Webb’s office asking how she can get better, and she takes that feedback straight onto the track and implements it.

She’s also just a fantastic person to have around the group. She’s always smiling, always bringing great energy, and she lifts the people around her.
