The WA Good Food Guide has partnered with the Purple Hands Foundation for the third consecutive year to help deliver a memorable dining experience to more than 250 travelling students on the first night of the 2025 Kimberley 9s Carnival at Cable Beach.

Working with top WA chefs - including Head Chef Jasmine-Lee Killen-Davis (Heyder & Shears) - the WA Good Food Guide designed a menu inspired by local and native ingredients for the students who came from across the Kimberley region - some travelling over 880 km to be part of the special event.

The menu was created from student-submitted healthy eating menus, as part of their Fuel To Play Kimberley Connected workshops.

After a full day of fun in the sun playing football on Cable Beach, the students were able to sit back and relax under the stars while enjoying their specially crafted meals, which were accompanied by a special appearance by Noongar Hip Hop star Flewnt, who got the crowd to their feet with his performance.

WA Good Food Guide Editor-in-Chief Georgia Moore says the Kimberley 9s redefines dining through play, community, and a joyful celebration of WA’s culture and produce.

“The Kimberley 9s dining experience is, without question, the most extraordinary and impactful event on The Guide’s calendar each year,” Moore said.

“We throw out the rulebook – there are no dining formalities. Students are encouraged to eat with their hands, to play, to connect. It’s a radical, joyful departure and yet it’s where the magic happens.

"Bringing WA’s culinary talent together to ignite young imaginations through food creates memories that last a lifetime.

"This is dining stripped back to its essence: community, culture, and the pure celebration of WA produce."

The student dining experience was delivered in partnership with the Purple Hands Foundation and the WA Good Food Guide, along with Heyder & Shears - with special thanks to the following organisations:
