Fremantle forward Gemma Houghton was ‘thrilled’ with Saturday’s win over North Melbourne which has secured Freo a spot in the AFLW Preliminary Finals.

Houghton said it felt ‘amazing’ to be playing AFLW finals and was excited for what the week ahead meant for the playing group.

“I use that word quite a lot, amazing, because it’s just a special moment to take in,” Houghton said.

“I couldn't fault the girls today, I’m so proud of each and every one of them.”

The 27-year-old has had a breakout season in Freo’s forward line and was named in the AFLW team of the week after the team’s win against Geelong last weekend.

Houghton kicked one goal in Sunday’s 27-point victory and said the team’s success this season was a credit to the trust amongst playing squad.

“I couldn’t be where I am without my team mates,” Houghton said.

“For them to deliver the ball the way the way they do, and to put my head over the ball and to know I've got that support from them, it all makes a big difference out on the field.”

More than 6,300 people filled Fremantle Oval to show their support on Saturday, Houghton adding the noise from the stands after a goal was ‘incredible’.

“To have our fans here at Freo Oval… we can't do it without the fans, we thank you a lot for that,” she said.

The AFL will announce fixtures for the AFLW Preliminary Finals on Monday afternoon. Fremantle finish the season in second place on the Conference A ladder, meaning they will play an away final next weekend.
