Freo forwards creating options

Spoilt for choice up forward - Hogan Jesse Hogan post-match following the win over the Giants.

Jesse Hogan believes Fremantle is building a formidable forward line after a number of their forwards fired in a 24-point win against GWS on Saturday.

Brandon Matera (four), Hogan (three), Matt Taberner (three) and Michael Walters (three) combined for 14 of Freo’s 16 goals on the day.

Hogan said that this spread of goal kickers would make life hard for opposition defences.

“To have that spread is awesome, to have so many different options going forward and being so versatile, it’s going to be really hard to match up on and that’s really exciting,” Hogan said.

“To get on the end of a couple (myself) was really good but it’s even more important to see such a spread across the forward line.”

Hogan said he was pleased to get some more goals on the board.

“After going goalless in the first two games, it wasn’t ideal,” Hogan said.

“I had my family congratulating me after kicking one against West Coast last week and I was thinking ‘I usually kick goals all the time’, so it was disappointing me.

“I think I’m getting that cohesion with Tabs, Cam (McCarthy), Coxy (Brennan Cox) and Sonny (Michael Walters).”

Fremantle took an impressive 20 marks inside 50 compared to five for GWS, led by seven from Taberner and five from Hogan.

“I think with each game, we’re getting a bit more cohesion and today that was definitely the case,” Hogan said.

“We had way more marks inside 50, which I think is a massive indicator for the best teams in the AFL.

“Week to week we’re getting better, so we’ll keep working on that and we’ll see how we go.”
