Despite kicking the first five goals of the match, Hawthorn was made to work by Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe on the way to notching a 12.12 (84) to 8.5 (53) win against Freo at University of Tasmania Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Fyfe left the ground early in the second quarter with an apparent shoulder concern but returned later in the term, kicking three goals and setting up another in a dominant display to put Fremantle just eight points behind at half-time.

Freo continued to come in the third quarter and closed to within three points before the Hawks got back into gear.

Two late goals from Mitchell Lewis gave the 'home' side a handy 21-point lead at the final break.

Lewis finished with three majors as Ricky Henderson continued his strong season, while Chad Wingard got through the game unscathed, kicking two goals.

Fyfe was Freo’s best, finishing with 24 disposals (16 contested), six marks, five clearances and an equal game-high eight tackles for the match.

The skipper was well supported by Brad Hill, who racked up a game-high 37 disposals, and finished the day with five marks, three clearances and three inside 50s.
