It’s been a productive ‘off-season’ for Freo’s new Irish players!

Rookie signings Kate Flood and Aine Tighe have both tasted Gaelic Football success in the past month as they captained their respective teams to victory.

Flood is the captain of Louth County and they secured the Leinster Junior Title with a 2-13 (19) to 0-11 (11) victory over Carlow.

Flood scored 1-3 and reportedly led the team well as they jumped to an early lead and never looked in danger despite a strong fight back from Carlow.

Tighe is the captain of her local side Kiltubrid and they defeated St Josephs 5-11 (26) to 1-14 (17) to become the League Champions of Division One.

Tighe starred for her team, scoring 4-5 to ensure that their game was always safe in their keeping.

Fremantle senior coach Trent Cooper said he was thrilled for the girls and was excited to see the pair make the transition to AFLW.

“It’s a great result for both Kate and Aine and we at Fremantle are thrilled for them,” Cooper said.

“Both of the girls are currently working on programs set out by (Fremantle high performance manager) Kate Starre, and will be doing specialist AFL coaching put in place by Fremantle with the help of AFL Ireland over the coming months to ensure that their transition into our program is as smooth as possible.”
