Ready to regroup

'We let ourselves down' - Fyfe Nat Fyfe speaks following Freo's Round 21 clash with the Saints

Fremantle skipper Nat Fyfe has called for his teammates to regroup quickly after a tough three-point loss to St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.

Fyfe led from the front for Fremantle, with a game-high 35 disposals, two goals, 11 inside 50s and a game-high 608 metres gained.

Fyfe said whilst the effort was there throughout the match, there are improvement areas still to be addressed.

“It hurts losing like that when you know we could have won,” Fyfe said.

“Tomorrow and during the week we’ll look back and see it’s a platform of effort that we can really build a game around.

“But there’s some clear things we can improve on.”

Fyfe labelled the need to improve stoppage work and execution as key learnings to take out of the Saints clash.

“We got a few things wrong around the stoppage,” Fyfe said.

“They got lucky with a bit of ball movement and a nice kick on entry.

“I don’t think we could have done much to defend it, but it doesn’t boil down to just the last two minutes.

“The whole game we let ourselves down with our use and connection.

“Our hunt to compete was good across the board but our execution was poor.”

Fyfe believes the group will bounce back quickly, as they shift their preparation to Saturday night’s clash with Essendon at Optus Stadium.

Fremantle will don their retro 'anchor' style guernsey for Hit92.9's Retro Round and celebrate Michael Walters 150th game milestone.

“We have to regroup quickly…Essendon have come off a bad loss and so they would be really wound up to put in a good performance,” Fyfe said.

“We need everyone to prepare as best they can and hopefully put in a good performance next Saturday at Optus Stadium.”
