Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir said although the Club has been hard-nosed with its 1-0 mantra all season, he and the team still make sure to celebrate the wins.

Fremantle’s Western Derby 63 win over West Coast notched up the Club’s 17th win of the year, the most the Club has ever recorded in a home-and-away season, which in turn was done in front of a record home-and-away crowd at Optus Stadium, with 56,616 on hand to see the win.

Speaking following the match, Longmuir said the process is what has held the team in good stead, but they still celebrate where they can.

“We celebrate every week, every win, and wins are hard to come by in AFL,” Longmuir said.

“We've been talking about one and zero.

“I’m never not proud of the guys and what we've done as a footy club so far.

“If you don't stop and smell the roses and enjoy the work at certain parts of the week, why do you play?

“We put a lot of work in each week to try and get a performance that replicates our best footy. And when we do that, we've got to celebrate that.”

With three games to go, the Club sits four games clear on top of the ladder (with the Swans still to play their Round 19 game). Longmuir was again adamant that it is process which has gotten his side to this position so far.

“What we've done is make sure that we don't hold on to wins or winning streaks too long,” Longmuir said.

“We don't hold on to losses too long, and we treat them for what they are.

“We review them, we try and get better, and we move on to the next week.

“We've still got a lot of improvement left in us. I thought there were some signs there today that show that we've got some improvement left in us.

“Teams are throwing different things at us that we need to adjust to, so the next four or five weeks give us a good opportunity to work on some of those things.”

Fremantle will be back at Optus Stadium in Round 21, on Friday 31 July, to face the Western Bulldogs.
