Fremantle senior coach Justin Longmuir said the tight loss to the Demons at the MCG on Saturday will provide a good opportunity to refresh some learnings before their next clash against Adelaide on Friday 14 August.

Speaking in the post-game media conference following the four-point loss, Longmuir said his team didn’t handle Melbourne’s final surge like he would have liked.

“We just couldn't quite go the distance,” Longmuir said.

“We could have been a lot better late in the game, and we haven't been in that situation much in the last 12 weeks. We'll learn a lot out of that.

"We've been practicing those situations, but it's different, right? You're away from home, opposition crowd gets into it, the scoreboard's real instead of make-believe.

"We probably didn't show the composure we needed in those moments.

"We'll learn, we'll learn a lot from that.”

Longmuir identified that his team’s recent run of form and ability to run out games strongly in recent history meant they have not had to execute some tight end-game drills in matches for some time, noting that the Round 22 game proved a good opportunity to revisit and learn again before finals.

“We hadn't been in that situation for a while, so we'll review it,” Longmuir said.

“We've got no fears here.

"We've been working on a few things behind the scenes, so we'll keep ticking those off against Adelaide next week.

"It's going to be a good challenge and good prep.”

Fremantle will now play Adelaide at Optus Stadium on Friday 14 August.
