Defender Ash Brazill has shone a light on some good performances out of Fremantle’s disappointing 21-point loss to Port Adelaide at Cockburn ARC Oval on Sunday. 

The Freo veteran praised Irish recruit Aoife Healy’s debut match. Healy working hard throughout the contest to finish with 13 disposals, four marks and two tackles in her first ever AFLW match. 

“We've found a star in the making. She's only been here for three months, and we keep pumping her up, but every time she's around that ball, she does something magical with it," Brazill said. 

"So we're very lucky to have her, give her a couple more games and it's going to be scary."

Fellow Freo first gamer Lily Johnson also showed promise in her new colours, the former Demon impressive despite the defeat. 

“We're very lucky to have Lily out there. She's played a few games from Melbourne, and when she gets the ball, she's all class," Brazill said.

But it was the evergreen Kiara Bowers who led from the front for Fremantle, the four time fairest and best winner laid nine trademark tackles and gathered 24 disposals. 

“Turbo just keeps showing up year after year. I think just taking people out of the game, putting her head down first," Brazill said.

"Being a mum myself, knowing what it's like to get the kids up in the morning to get here. I just look up to her, and I think she's an inspiration-not just to all mums out there, but anyone aspiring to be a footballer.” 

Fremantle now hit the road for a Round 2 clash with Collingwood at Victoria Park on Sunday 23 August 12:35pm (EST).
