After a record-breaking season that took Fremantle to their second AFL Grand Final in Club history, the race for the 2026 Doig Medal is one of the most open in years.  

Freo won a club record 19 home and away games in 2026, including a 14-game winning streak that showcased plenty of match-winning moments and standout individual performances. 

Through the middle, Luke Jackson played every game as the side's number one ruckman, averaging 26.5 hitouts and 4.9 clearances while also kicking 29 goals. Shai Bolton was just as influential in his second season at the Club, setting a new Fremantle record for goal assists (31) in a season before claiming the Norm Smith Medal on Grand Final day. 

Alongside them, Caleb Serong was at his competitive best at the coalface all year, highlighted by a game-high 13 clearances in the AFL Grand Final, the third most of any player on record. 

Josh Treacy kicked a career-high 57 goals and took the most contested marks (54) in the competition, while Jye Amiss finished his own season with a career-high 64 goals to lead the Club's goalkicking.  

In defence, new leadership group member Jordan Clark played every game and averaged 22.4 disposals at 83 per cent efficiency to earn his second straight All Australian blazer. 

Then there's the rise of Murphy Reid, who took another step forward in just his second season by averaging more than 23 disposals a game and sharing the 2026 AFL Coaches Association Best Emerging Player Award, plus his first All Australian blazer. 

The 2026 Doig Medal Presentation Dinner will take place on Saturday 3 October at Crown Perth.  

The event will be hosted by Ryan Daniels and will showcase the best individual performances from the 2026 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Doig Medal
The player who has excelled in the 2026 season is acknowledged and presented with the Club’s most prestigious award – the Doig Medal.  

Fourth, third and second place are also all recognised and presented on-stage. 

Beacon Award
The Beacon Award has the same criteria to the AFL’s Rising Star award in that players are eligible to win it in their first or second year of AFL football provided they have played 10 games or less in their debut season.  

Best Clubman Award
The Best Clubman Award is voted on by the coaching staff, leadership group and various Club departments and recognises the player that consistently puts the needs of the team first, willingly accepts responsibility to improve the whole Club environment and lives the values of the playing group.  

Players' Award
Voted on by the players each week, this award is presented to the player who best lives the trademark set out at the beginning of the year.   

Player of the Finals Series
This award recognises the standout performer from Fremantle’s 2026 finals series, which includes four matches this year (QF v Hawthorn, SF v Geelong, PF v Sydney, GF v Brisbane).  

Voting for the Doig Medal also continues throughout the AFL finals series.
