Fremantle forward-mid Hayley Miller will achieve a Freo first when she plays her 100th AFLW game on Sunday.
One of three inaugural players remaining at the Club, the significance of Miller’s milestone isn’t lost on the player herself.
“It's pretty significant. I think when I reflect back to the start, it probably wasn't even on the radar to play 100 when we were only playing seven games a season,” Miller said.
The former Fremantle captain has played 99 of a possible 103 games since the competition’s inception in 2017.
The milestone will be made extra special given it’s against arch rivals, West Coast, at Leederville Oval on Sunday.
“It’s a big game. The Derby is always big, there’s a little bit more hype around it in general,” said Miller.
“It being my 100-game milestone doesn't really change anything for me, I just love a Derby, so it’s about going out there and putting our best foot forward. We saw it on the weekend against Adelaide and we'll be looking to do that again.”
Coach Lisa Webb was full of praise for the Club’s leading goal-kicker ahead of her milestone match.
“One hundred games. It's absolutely wild to be honest,” Webb said.
“She's got really great balance and has just been one of those inspiring leaders. To captain the Club and be in our leadership group, she's a massive player for us. She loves the Derby as well!”
Miller’s longevity in the game is even more impressive, given her versatility across the ground.
“I think we even talked about playing her at fullback one time, so she's one of those players who’s happy to play anywhere,” Webb said.
“She's a great inside mid. She's shown she's a great forward as well, and she's always got those assets that other players might not always have. She's got great strength, great versatility, and she's super quick.”
An All Australian and Fremantle best and fairest winner, Miller joins esteemed company in the 100-club that includes current AFLW players Ebony Marinoff, Jasmine Garner and Kate Hore.
“We're so fortunate to have Hayley and to reach 100 games is seriously impressive,” Webb said.
“When you talk about the other players who've gone out there and played 100 games, they're high-end talent and great people, and to be able to have her here, we're very fortunate.
“We pride ourselves on having great people at this Club and to play 100 games, you're a bloody good person.
“She creates a great environment here and the culture that she's set. To be here from day one and see the changes and transition her own game, but also consistently improve.
“She's always team first, she's a great person that young players get to come into the Club and look up to and say, this girl isn't good by chance. She works extremely hard. She's really balanced in her approach and she's a great leader.”
Fremantle v West Coast will be broadcast live on Channel 7 and Fox Footy from 2pm on Sunday 4 October and streamed live on Kayo, Binge and 7plus. Listen live on 6PR and ABC Sport.
