Fremantle will look to reconnect when they hit the road on Friday to take on the top-of-the-table Roos in Melbourne this Sunday.
Freo went down by two goals to cross-town rivals West Coast in the derby clash at Leederville Oval. Ruck Mim Strom was disappointed with the result but paid credit to the Eagles.
“Obviously, we haven't lost one yet, which credit to the past ways we've played but we went a bit away from the way that we wanted to play, the way that we played last week, and ultimately, the Eagles got the win so credit to them.” Strom said.
“They always bring a really good fight. They always play really well. They're playing some good footy at the moment, and a Derby win is always a little bit extra heightened. So, I think we expected that from them. It was just us going away from what we wanted to do.”
Strom hoping an away trip to Melbourne for a clash with North next weekend will help the side reconnect. Fremantle are yet to lose away from home this season.
“We always love getting away, team camaraderie is really good. We get to play some games and we just feel really connected when we get away. We’ve just got to bring that while we're at home as well. It's yet to click, but hopefully in the next few weeks we've got a couple home games, and we'll look to connect the way we do it when we're away.” Strom said.
“We'll bounce back from this, I was speaking to Zac (Mim’s brother and Fremantle AFLW ruck coach) a couple weeks ago after a loss, and he reminded me you're never as bad as you think, and you’re also never as good as you think. So, we'll review it and use it as fuel for this week as we have a great challenge against North Melbourne.”
While Fremantle failed to get the Derby win, they did get the opportunity to recognise and acknowledge inaugural player Hayley Miller’s 100th AFLW appearance. Strom praising the Club’s first female player to reach the milestone.
“Hayley’s incredible. I'm so lucky to have been playing with her from my first day. She's definitely someone that sets the standard and has shown me what hard work is. I think Webby (Lisa Webb) covered it really well in the press conference (earlier this week). Hayley is such an incredible leader for us, but then just goes out every week and does what she does, and is a really valuable player for us.” Strom said.
