Brennan Cox could return to football as soon as this weekend with the versatile key position player listed as a test.

Cox injured his hamstring in Fremantle’s JLT2 clash against West Coast and Fremantle high performance manager Jason Weber said that he had progressed well in the rehabilitation group.

“Brennan trained really strongly over the weekend and we anticipate seeing him training this week with the team,” Weber said.

“Hopefully, he’ll be available for match committee.”

Weber said that he was pleased with Sam Switkowski’s progress from a hamstring injury after the small forward played limited minutes for Peel at the weekend in a practice match.

“Sam played really strongly, he got some good time on the field so we’re expecting him to progress again in the coming week,” Weber said.

Weber said that defender Griffin Logue is now two to three weeks away from a return with his hamstring injury.

“Griffin has unfortunately had a bit of a setback last week,” Weber said.

“He’s probably going to be another two to three weeks from here as he returns to full performance.”

Weber said that both Hayden Ballantyne and Connor Blakely are progressing well.

“Hayden had a relatively minor injury in round one. He’s progressed really strongly from the outset so he will continue this weekend and, hopefully, we can get him on deck from next week,” Weber said.

“Connor is harassing me regularly trying to get further advanced in his training. He’s doing a really good job, he’s been outstanding in his preparation through the whole injury cycle, so he’s right on target and doing really well.”

Weber also gave an update on new draftees Luke Valente (groin) and Brett Bewley (ankle), with Valente a chance to play football this weekend.

“Luke has done an extraordinary effort in his program in the past couple of weeks, so we will look to get him to the field this weekend,” Weber said.

“Brett picked up an ankle injury the previous weekend playing for Peel. He’s just started his return to running and he should back to football from next week.”
